I do not believe it is any key that when it comes to family parties, alcohol is almost always involved. It does not matter what the tradition, most families have their alcohol consumption they serve at vacation and other family get togethers. Until alcohol is forbidden in their religion, just as in the Mormons. I undoubtedly result from the family where at every vacation, wine and ale is definitely available. I don’t believe some individuals in my family and lots of other people’s families would be able to stand some family parties without alcohol.
While I meet up with everyone I myself have gotten to a point where when I get to a family gathering, I appear ahead to a glass of wine to sip. And I enjoy that second or 3rd glass of wine if my extended family begins to get on my nerves. I’ve come to realize that alcohol is just a part of family tradition when you bring extended family nearer together for an occasion.
Nevertheless, I do not think it is difficult to attend a family gathering and never have alcohol unlike many people I know who merely be shocked. There are a lot of people out there who have been through a tough journey and entered into recovery for an addiction to alcohol. These folks cannot be exposed to alcohol sometimes, and so they should not be excluded from family gatherings just because other people in that family need to drink. But I’ve noticed this happen, actually in my own family.
This past Christmas Event, I had the opportunity to see what respecting another’s sobriety at family parties really is like, what not drinking at a family party feels like. Do you know what, it is not bad, in fact, it is satisfying.
You see, my best friend’s mom is a recovering alcoholic. When we were in senior school, her alcoholism caused him lots of suffering. But, in the past few years she has visited treatment and gone through 12 step plans and has truly gotten in manage of her lifestyle and her drinking. She asked my companion, myself, and various other family members of hers over to her condominium for a Christmas Eve celebration the 2009 year. And of course, there is no alcohol.
This wasn’t even talked about in advance. All of us merely understood not to bring alcohol and not to expect alcohol. And the evening was fantastic! I did not skip not drinking at all. I was with my best friend and his amazing family. An absence of alcohol could not detract from the excellent spirits there.
By the end of the night, my best friend’s mom was so pleased to have had us over and to have celebrated the holiday in such a tranquil way. And I experienced proud that people all respected her sobriety without any concerns or pains. This made me think about all the days I’ve seen other family members flip their loved ones that are in recovery away because they didn’t need to forfeit alcohol in a family party, and it made me unhappy.
Family gatherings are for being with folks you love and honoring any occasion, a birthday, an achievement, an engagement, whatever. It isn’t for consuming. That may be an excellent portion of it, however it the assembly can still be good without it.
